Pause 4 Paws: A Day of Fun with Shelter Dogs
Do you love dogs and want to make a difference in their lives? Our Pause 4 Paws Program at Pearl River County SPCA is the perfect way to spend a day with an adoptable dog while giving them a break from the shelter. This program pairs volunteers with shelter dogs for a fun day out in the community, benefiting both you and our shelter pets.
How It Works
Get Started
Request a Pause 4 Paws Packet by emailing Pause4Paws@prcspca.net or stop by PRCSPCA at 1700 Palestine Road, Picayune, MS during business hours (Tuesday – Saturday, 10 AM – 4 PM).Note: Dogs may not be available to take home the same day.
Choose Your Dog
Check the list of available dogs on our Facebook Group or ask the front desk for options.
Staff will assist in matching you with a dog that will benefit most from some time away. (Staff reserves the right to make final selections.)
Head Out for an Adventure
Dogs can leave at 11:00 AM and must be returned one hour before closing (3:00 PM).
PRCSPCA provides everything you’ll need for the day, including supplies and a list of suggested places to visit.
Share the Experience
Send us photos and a report card detailing your dog’s day out! Submit via email (Pause4Paws@prcspca.net) or Facebook Messenger.
Program Benefits
For the Dogs: A break from the shelter reduces stress, improves their mood, and helps us learn more about their personalities.
For the Community: Exposure to potential adopters and the chance to see shelter dogs in a real-world setting increases their chances of finding forever homes.
For You: A fun, meaningful way to give back and enjoy the companionship of a lovable dog for the day.
FAQs
Is there a cost to participate?
The program is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.
Can I take the dog to a dog park or introduce them to my pet?
No. For safety reasons, we ask that dogs stay on leash and are not introduced to other animals, including your own.
Can I participate more than once?
Yes! You can participate as often as you like. If you’d like to spend more time with a dog, consider becoming a short-term foster (2 weeks or less).
What should I bring?
Nothing! We provide a seatbelt, leash, harness, poop bags, water bottle, treats, and everything else your dog may need.
How can I help the dog get adopted?
Take photos and videos during your outing, share them on social media, and tag us using #Pause4PawsPRCSPCA. This extra exposure can make all the difference!
What if the dog gets loose?
Do not chase the dog.
Run the opposite direction to encourage the dog to follow you.
Drop a pin at your location and note the direction the dog went.
Call us immediately at 601-798-8000 and keep an eye on the dog until help arrives.
