There are many ways to get involved, whether you have a few hours a week or more time to give. Here are some of our top volunteer opportunities:

At the Shelter:

• Pet Care: Assist by bathing, walking, or socializing adoptable pets. You’ll also help with adoption counseling, with training provided.

• Adoption Days: Help transport dogs to Petco and PetSmart in Slidell for weekend adoption events on Saturdays and Sundays. Duties include transporting, walking, and engaging with potential adopters.

• Foster Care: Provide a temporary home for animals in need, with all expenses covered. Fostering is a critical part of our mission to save lives.

• Handyman Tasks: If you’re handy with tools, we can always use help with building or repairing items like storage sheds and playground equipment.

• Spay/Neuter Assistance: Support our team by assisting with spay/neuter surgeries for shelter pets, ensuring they’re ready for adoption.

• Recycling Assistance: Volunteers can also help by taking donated aluminum to recycling centers, contributing to our sustainability efforts.

At Events:

• Fundraising and Education: Represent the shelter at various events by sitting at the SPCA table, raising awareness, and collecting donations.

• Special Events: Support and participate in our semi-annual Wellness in the Park Clinic, Street Fairs, and other events like pop-up wellness vaccination and microchip clinics.

Community Outreach:

• Transport Program: Volunteer drivers are needed to transport animals to Hattiesburg for our life-saving transport program, dropping them off at designated centers.

• Legislation Advocacy: Help lobby for stronger animal cruelty laws and more robust spay/neuter legislation.

• Social Media and Photography: Capture photos and videos of adoptable pets, manage our social media presence, and engage with our online community.

From Home:

• Awareness Campaigns: Spread the word about our shelter and events through flyers, inserts, and social media efforts.

• Graphic Design and Promotions: Design promotional materials for events and special initiatives.

• Grant Writing: Research and apply for grants to support our shelter’s ongoing work.

• Newsletter and Outreach: Contribute to our newsletter and assist in reaching out to donors, adopters, and volunteers.
