PICAYUNE, MS – With freezing temperatures looming, the Pearl River County SPCA (PRCSPCA) issued an urgent call for temporary fosters to provide warmth and shelter for adult dogs housed in outdoor kennels. Thanks to an overwhelming response from the community, all outdoor dogs were successfully placed in loving foster homes, ensuring their safety and comfort during the severe weather.
Between Friday and Saturday, 28 dogs were placed into foster care, with an additional 45 finding temporary homes on Monday. The shelter has now become noticeably quieter, as seen in a video shared on PRCSPCA’s Facebook page, showcasing the shelter's calm and peaceful atmosphere after the community's collective effort.
“This incredible effort is a testament to the power of community,” said Lauren Fitts, President of PRCSPCA. “Thanks to our compassionate staff, dedicated volunteers, and the generosity of local families, every dog from our outdoor kennels is now safe and warm in a loving foster home. Together, we’ve shown what can be achieved when we come together for a common purpose—protecting the most vulnerable among us. We are so grateful to everyone who stepped up to help.”
This successful initiative not only ensured the well-being of the outdoor animals but also allowed the shelter to minimize its indoor population, creating a safer environment for staff and animals alike.
“This week has truly demonstrated the strength and compassion of our community,” said Elizabeth Treadway, Shelter Director of PRCSPCA. “Thanks to the incredible efforts of our staff, volunteers, and foster families, we’ve ensured that all of our outdoor animals are safe and warm, allowing us to reduce the number of animals inside the shelter. This also gave us the opportunity to close our office on Tuesday, keeping our staff safe during the cold weather while still providing excellent care for the few animals remaining indoors. I couldn’t be prouder of our team and the community that supports us.”
PRCSPCA continues to rely on the generosity and dedication of local supporters to provide care for animals in need.
