HOPE Thrift Store Expansion to Benefit Pearl River County SPCA
PICAYUNE, MS - The Pearl River County SPCA is excited to announce the expansion of the HOPE Thrift Store, a project that has grown significantly since its inception. What began as a monthly yard sale during the COVID-19 pandemic has blossomed into a vital part of the community, providing much-needed support for shelter animals. This idea, spearheaded by PRCSPCA's president Lauren Fitts, has evolved with unwavering community support and dedication.
Initially opened in September 2023 at 601 W Canal, the success of HOPE Thrift Store quickly necessitated further expansion. In January 2024, a second location at 114 Elizabeth St was opened. Now, the two stores are being consolidated into a larger, 3,750 sq/ft space at 245 Frontage Rd. This move not only allows for more inventory and customer space but also increases the store’s capacity to support the shelter. The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new location will take place on Saturday, July 27, promising an exciting day of celebration and community engagement.
All proceeds from the HOPE Thrift Store directly benefit the Pearl River County SPCA, helping to provide care and shelter for homeless animals. Until now, the store has been entirely volunteer-run. However, with the new expansion and increased hours of operation, part-time staff have been hired to manage the growth and ensure continued success.
Lauren Fitts reflects on the journey and the community's role in it: "I couldn’t have done any of this alone. We are successful due to many volunteers along the way and those who continue to show up, helping in every way they can." This quote embodies the collective spirit and dedication that has driven HOPE Thrift Store’s success.
Community members are encouraged to donate resalable items during normal business hours at the new location, which will be open from 10 AM to 6 PM on Thursdays and Fridays, and from 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturdays. While the store does not accept clothing or shoes, other resalable items are greatly appreciated and help support the shelter's mission.
The grand opening event on July 27 is not just a celebration of the new location but also a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together for a common cause. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the new store, discover unique treasures, and enjoy delicious food from local vendors while supporting a great cause that benefits the animals cared for by the PRCSPCA.
