Shelter Hose Handling
The shelter has 3 Cox hose reels located in various locations throughout the shelter. These reels coil up our heavy duty hoses that are approximately 50ft or 100ft long depending on location. These hoses are expensive and must be treated with care during daily use to maintain proper working order, efficiency, and longevity. Please inspect the equipment daily and report any damage to management.
• Always uncoil the hose by pulling straight out, ensuring that the hose is not kinked, pinched, or twisted.
• The hose reel makes a clicking sound as it uncoils. A single click indicates that the spring latch is loose allowing the hose to move freely, and will retract when no tension is provided. A double click indicates that a stop hold has been engaged and the hose will refrain from retracting when pull tension is released.
• Each hose is fitted with a quick-connect device that allows users to change from jet nozzle to soap or Accel (Rescue) foamers.
o To release the quick-connect pull back on the mechanism
o A new attachment can then be installed by pressing into the receiver
• Do not leave hoses uncoiled and unattended (especially during business hours)
• Do not allow dogs to chew or play with the hose.
o In Outback wrap hose behind cover columns to keep away from kennels.
• Each hose is equipped with a shut-off valve at the source and should be kept in the off position when not in use.
• Drain hoses before recoiling
• ALWAYS guide the hose when retracting onto the hose reel. Failing to do so can lead to tangles and damaged hoses. Do not allow hose to “free wheel” back onto the reel.
