Canine Path to Outcome (maybe ought to be Animal Path to Outcome)
PRCSPCA intakes over 3500 animals per year. In order to maintain this level of capacity it is critical that each animal moves through the shelter as quickly as possible and each day an animal spends in our care is on a specific outcome plan. There are several paths that lead toward a live release; adoption, transport, or transfer to rescue partners.
The intention of this document is to show all the activities that that are required to take a dog into the shelter and process it appropriately though an end outcome. We currently require an appointment to surrender a pet and typically only take in Stray dogs and Owner Surrender Cats as we are overfull.
Appointment: The finder/owner contacts the shelter and arranges for a scheduled appointment to bring the dog/puppies into the shelter.
Check-in: On appointment day, the receptionist checks them in. This includes an initial microchip scan. The dog/puppies are made active in our shelter management system (PetPoint) at this time. The dog is handed to Intake personnel to do the remainder of the intake process.
